Novak Djokovic will chase his ninth
Australian Open title against
Daniil Medvedev on Sunday, hoping to extend his Melbourne Park reign and claim the 18th Major crown.
Daniil has won three of the previous four matches against Novak and 20 overall since the last year's Paris Masters, hoping to extend the gap and earn the 13th consecutive top-10 triumph. Boris Becker still puts Novak in front but says that Daniil can challenge the eight-time champion if he brings his best tennis.
Novak is yet to lose a match after the quarter-final round in Melbourne, winning all 17 semi-final and final matches and moving closer to another crown Down Under following a convincing victory over Aslan Karatsev in the semis. Overcoming an injury, Djokovic battled past Taylor Fritz, Milos Raonic and Alexander Zverev and had a more relaxed day at the office in the semis ahead of the title clash.
"If you asked Novak Djokovic who he would have preferred to play Tsitsipas or Medvedev, he would probably have said Tsitsipas. Medvedev plays too unpredictable and also has this fantastic run: winning the 20th match in a row. He's the player of the moment, but he's playing the eight-time Australian Open winner at his favorite tournament.
For me, Novak is the favorite, but Medvedev is the most difficult opponent he can have in the final. The young Russian can win it, too. Novak feels special at Rod Laver Arena but will have to work hard to beat Daniil on Sunday," Boris Becker said.
