World number three
Daniil Medvedev has shown his frustration
during his recent outing in the
Shanghai Masters.
The 27-year-old’s journey in the ATP 1000 competition came
to a surprising end as he lost to America’s Sebastian Korda in straight sets with
a score of 7-6, 6-2 on Saturday.
During the match, Russia’s tennis star was clearly
frustrated as he ended up smashing his racquet.
The result will be a big setback for Medvedev who was hoping
to have a longer run after suffering back-to-back final defeats.
The Moscow-born recently came second-best in the final of
the China Open against Italy’s Jannik Sinner who emerged victorious in straight
sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
Before that, Medvedev lost the final of the US Open to the
current world number one Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic with a
score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Despite those results, Medvedev will be pretty pleased with
his overall performance in 2023 where other than the final in New York, he also
played in the semifinal of Wimbledon.
However, he fell short of a spot in the final after losing to
Spain’s young sensation and the current world number two Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3,
6-3.
