The draw for the finals of tennis' premier team competition has been unveiled, and time for speculation is over. Let's take a look at the exciting matchups set to begin on November 19th in Malaga, Spain. Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will battle it out to decide which country earns the right to win the coveted Davis Cup.
ITALY - ARGENTINA
Italy arrives as the reigning champion and managed to win Group A in the previous round without its trump card, Jannik Sinner. The n°1 preferred to recover energies after winning the US Open but will surely be in Malaga. With him, the Italians should be able to beat an Argentine team that has been solid, with many top 30 players but lacking top 10 talent. Also, the surface is not the one that suits the South Americans best, however they managed to frustrate the British at home on indoor as well. The doubles matchup could be the key to the series.
UNITED STATES - AUSTRALIA
The Americans haven't won this tournament in many years, and this could well be the season that ends that drought. They will not have it easy, as they will have to defeat the powerful Australian team to advance to the next round. Both teams did well in the qualifying round and are hoping to bring back many of their best players for the definition stage: Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe on the American side, and Alex de Miñaur in the case of the Oceanians. All of them weren't able to play in the previous round.
CANADA - GERMANY
At the bottom of the draw, the Germans and Canadians will meet in the third quarter-finals matchup. Both teams are very dangerous, especially Germany, who managed to advance without their two best players: Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff. Canada counts on Felix Auger-Aliassime as its main man. Together with Shapovalov, they played all the matches in Group D, both singles and doubles.
SPAIN - NETHERLANDS
Spain rounds out this side of the draw. The Iberians had a strong performance in the group stage and awaits the Netherlands, a team with less depth in terms of their talent. However, Botic Van de Zandschulp already knows what it is like to defeat Carlos Alcaraz, having sent the Spaniard packing at Flushing Meadows. That means that there is no room for complacency from the hosts.
David Ferrer's team could incorporate a luxury reinforcement, if Rafa Nadal manages to recover and be at 100%:
"I will talk to him later. The important thing is that he is well. If he arrives in good condition in November, he will certainly be a player we can count on," said the Spanish captain.
It will be a tough road to get to the finals, but if the predictions are fulfilled, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz could be in the decisive showdown.
