Novak Djokovic is out of the
Rome Open after losing to
Holger Rune in a very heated clash that went to three sets with the Dane emerging with the W 6-2 4-6 6-2.
It was a rather interesting match between Rune and Djokovic which was expected. Their clash in Paris was a good one and so was this one. The result might have been surprising to some but Paris showed that Rune can give Djokovic a lot of trouble and he certainly did. The opening set was won by the Dane 6-2 behind 10 winners.
He didn't serve well, certainly not as good as Djokovic though his serving left a lot to be desired. The key was that Rune outplayed him in the rallies. The second set saw Djokovic fight back taking a more aggressive approach which yielded results. He broke Rune for a 4-2 lead first but then lost that break a bit later.
Eventually, the match was suspended at 5-4 for Djokovic with Rune on serve and the score 0-30 in the game. They returned a bit later after the rain stopped and Djokovic won two great points to win the set 6-4. It looked like the final one was going to be a good one but actually, it was Rune who proved quite a bit better jumping out to an early 4-0 lead which was enough to win the match.
