The first set which in its entirety was played yesterday with several stoppages belonged to Tsitsipas. The Greek played overall better and he was able to maintain his lead throughout the set despite rain interrupting play several times. The final time rain interrupted the match was when Tsitsipas broke Djokovic early in the 2nd set. It was 6-4 2-1 for Tsisipas when play got suspended.

The match restarted today and initially, it saw Tsitsipas continue where he left off. He confirmed the break 3-1 and proceeded to hold it for a few more games. Once Djokovic got into a rhythm the match started properly. Novak first pulled the lead back to make it 4-4. In the end, after several hard-fought games, Novak came out on top 7-5.

The momentum shift for Novak was huge as he proceeded to break Stefanos in the next game making it 3-3. It seemed like an even match but at 4-4 Stefanos pulled out some stellar rallies to take the 5-4 lead. It seemed like the Greek would be able to finish it but Djokovic rallied back once more.

At 5-5 Tsitsipas once again had a break point but Novak was composed and saved it. He then played some spectacular tennis to end the match that was almost 3 and a half hours long. A spectacular comeback win for Djokovic who once again reaches the Rome Masters semifinal.
