Returning to tennis for
Dominic Thiem is not going very good as the Austrian announced he is pushing back his return for the clay season.
Dominic Thiem’s return to competitive tennis has once again been pushed back with the former US Open champion deciding to pull out of the Sunshine Double in
Indian Wells and Miami. After picking up a serious wrist injury at the Mallorca Open in June
last year, the Austrian was unable to defend his title at Flushing
Meadows in August.
He initially pencilled in the Australian Open as a possible return
tournament but was unable to compete while he travelled to Argentina
for the Cordoba Open only to withdraw at the last minute. This week’s Indian Wells Open was next on his calendar, but the
former world No 3 has opted to skip the ATP Masters event as well as the
Miami Open.
On the decision he said:
“I had really good practice weeks.
The wrist is perfectly fine, the hand is getting better and better but
still I decided to pull out of Indian Wells and Miami and to start on
the clay court. It’s still the surface where I feel most comfortable so I think it’s the perfect time to start there.”
His return will probably happen at the Monte-Carlo Masters in April.
