Well-known tennis journalist Christopher Clarey is convinced that
Roger Federer believes that he still can win
Wimbledon.
During a long interview with Tennis Deutschland Clarey talked a lot about Roger Federer and what keeps him going despite multiple injruies and surgeries in teh past few years. He said:
"The last time Roger Federer was fully healthy he was only one point away from winning Wimbledon, just one point!
In my opinion, he thinks he still has a chance if he gets himself back
physically. He didn't do badly at Wimbledon 2021 either, where he
reached the quarterfinals at 39 and despite a bad knee. I doubt he can
do better than that, there are too many opponents in the way for his
dream to come true."
Clarey also added:
"However, it is always difficult to bet against Roger. His sense of humour is often underestimated, he always jokes and likes to laugh in company. In front of the cameras, he is the symbol of elegance, but in everyday life he is a very normal man."
And finished off with:
"Roger Federer is an optimistic person, he has a positive energy
similar to that of small children. Right now, his main goals are two: to
have his knee fixed so that he can have a normal life with his family
and to indulge in one last ride before retiring. I don't think he's doing all this just to play a few games in the Laver Cup. Roger is one who likes competition!"
