Roger Federer has ruled out any kind of tennis comeback as he realizes that he simply can't offer anything more to tennis as he already gave everything.
Federer gave quite a bit to tennis over the years taking the sport to a global phenomenon that was being followed across generations. He retired at last year's Laver Cup and many believe that was it. Some believed he might make a comeback, particularly after spotting him on a tennis court but he's always maintained a belief that he'll retire once and that would be it.
He still holds that belief:
"I'm not a big comeback fan. I'll never retire and come back. It's not something for me, squeeze that lemon out and when the last drop is out, I'll know I'm done."
He will be back on a tennis court and playing tennis but not in a competitive format. He hopes to stage many matches for fans around the world who did not see him play in a while or never. To do that, he'll need to strengthen his knees and when asked about that, Federer said:
"Honestly, this knee situation has been complex, been difficult. If you would have told me three or four years ago, that 2021-22 you'll have three knee surgeries and still coming back, I'd have been like, 'Are you crazy?'."
Progress is good but slow. We'll have to wait a bit more for that.
