For the first time in 16 and a half years, there will be no Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic at the Masters 1000 event in Miami next week!
In Paris 2004, no layer from the 'Big 3' was at Bercy to fight for the title. Since 2005, Federer, Nadal and Djokovic (at least one of them) have played in 138 consecutive Masters 1000 tournaments, leading the field at every Masters 1000 event for 16 straight seasons.
That all will change next week in Miami, with three legends skipping the season's first Masters 1000 event and ending their incredible streak at this level.
Roger Federer was the first to skip Miami, playing a couple of matches in Doha and deciding to stay away from Dubai and Miami ahead of the clay season. Rafael Nadal followed his great rival, saying he needs more time on the practice court after a back injury that has bothered him since January.
On Friday night, Novak Djokovic announced that he wouldn't seek the seventh Miami Open crown, opting to spend more time with his family in these troubled times.

Dear fans, I’m very sorry to announce that this year I won’t travel to Miami to compete. I decided to use this precious time at home to stay with my family. With all restrictions, I need to find balance in my time on tour and at home. I look forward to coming back next year!
