The current world no 3's schedule has been revealed and he will be participating in only one clay court tournament this year.
Roger Federer will not be participating in the Madrid Open and Rome Masters this year. His agent, Tony Godsick, revealed the 38-year-old schedule and confirmed he will be playing in only one clay court tournament - The French Open.
“As his schedule states, he plans on playing just
Roland Garros,” Godsick told Reuters.
Federer has only participated in one clay tournament in the past four tours. And his trend of missing clay tournaments will continue this year. He revealed some time back that
he's declined a bit physically.
Federer also plans to spend more time with his family. And he will be taking a two month break after playing in the Miami Open in March.
“Soon we will have a longer phase without a trip again,” Federer said. “I am constantly discussing with Mirka how we can find the easiest solution for the children. And mostly that’s the best for my tennis."
The Swiss also believes he can win more Grand Slams despite playing less tournaments. Federer already has a record-breaking 20 Grand Slam titles.
“Yes, I do believe that. I think by having the year that I had last year, also with what I have in my game, how I’m playing, I do feel that, yeah.”
