One of Novak Djokovic's main aims for the rest of the season especially with the calendar Grand Slam out of the question is to claim the Olympic Games gold medal.
His former coach, Goran Ivanisevic said that he is out to prove a point of sorts despite not needing to in his view. Djokovic despite trying for multiple years and also being the top dog in tennis for a long time is still yet to taste Olympic Games success.
He will likely will only have one final opportunity to achieve his dream something that Ivanisevic wants more than anything for his former charge.
They split recently after six years together with no ill feeling from the former Wimbledon champion. He even gave Nenad Zimonjic the seal of approval with the former World No.1 doubles star currently coaching Djokovic temporarily.
This could become permanent and it is a move that Ivanisevic hopes he makes despite of course losing his job after a string of recent losses culminating in a humiliation at the hands of Luca Nardi at Indian Wells which saw the final nail hammered into the coffin of their highly beneficial partnership.
“I believe that Novak will find motivation, I am sure of it. I wish him Olympic gold with all my heart, even more than the Slams,” he said.
“It’s something that he wants, he feels like he owes it to someone, although he doesn’t owe anyone anything… I wish for him to succeed in the Olympics," said Ivanisevic to SportKlub as translated by Tennis Majors.
“When Novak is the DJ, everybody dances to his tune. The sooner he takes over the DJ’s place, the sooner others will start to dance," continued Ivanisevic believing that he can very much put any hoodoo behind him and return to his best.
