World No.1
Jannik Sinner will make his return to the ATP circuit at the upcoming
Rome Open, and the Italian recently took some time to highlight some significant moments in his career.
The two-time Australian Open champion has been serving a three-month suspension from all tennis activities after he tested positive for Clostebol, a banned substance, at last year's Indian Wells event. After a lengthy legal battle, it was determined that Sinner did not intentionally violate the anti-doping policy, but nonetheless he was still given a punishment for the positive results.
Sinner pinpoints most memorable moment of his career
As the Italian ramped up his preparations for his return to the tennis courts, Sinner opened up on his career thus far. The 23-year old highlighted the moment he became World No.1 as the best moment of his career. Following Novak Djokovic's quarterfinal withdrawal at last year's French Open, Sinner became the new World No.1 on the ATP Tour.
"The greatest emotion I felt while playing tennis?" pondered the Italian in an interview with Rai 1 News. "When I learned that I was going to become world number 1, it’s not just an achievement, it’s the result of an entire year. For me, it was an incredible moment.
"Another crazy moment, as an Italian, is when you enter the Central Court in Rome or Turin, you don’t even feel like you’re on a tennis court, you feel like you’re in a football stadium."
