Greece’s tennis star
Stefanos Tsitsipas has confirmed to end
his collaboration with coach Mark Philippoussis.
The 25-year-old had a disappointing outing in the
US Open
2023 where he was knocked out of the second round after losing to Switzerland’s
Dominic Stephan Stricker with a score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
Tsitsipas was quoted in a report where he stated that his journey
with the coach Philippoussis would come to an end.
"The idea to bring Mark was mine. Our collaboration for
this summer ended here. It was something we had decided before. From now on I
will continue with my own team in which my father is also [present]," he
said.
The world number seven further went on to express optimism to
end the year on a high with some impressive performances in the tournaments to
come.
"I hope to play like I did at the beginning of the year
and finish with a higher rating than I have now,” he said. “The truth is that
now I have fallen enough, this week I had a chance because I didn't have many
points to defend.
"My father right now, I gave him some time off. He
hasn't had time off since I'm 12 years old, I think for him, it's very healthy
to take some time away from the court and feel refreshed again.”
