Day Five is here at the 2023
US Open with the third round now the order of the day in the side of the draw featuring the most big names and favourites for the title.
With the
schedule now released, we take a look through the main talking points ahead of Day Five with the Last 16 starting to shape up.
Gauff, Djokovic to star on Arthur Ashe
As has been the case all tournament, there has been no differentiation when it comes to the main players being on Arthur Ashe.
Those being
Coco Gauff and
Novak Djokovic who will star. Both have lived up to their billing, Gauff not as tournament favourite but as the player that the US fans now expect to deliver.
She took down Mirra Andreeva last round with relative ease albeit with some fightback from the Russian towards the end. Next up is a player who did one of the ultimate fightbacks in Elise Mertens.

prizes! Seemingly down and out, she came back to defeat Danielle Collins 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the end. Another American is now in sight for the Belgian albeit one she has a poor record against.
It is 2-0 Head to Head to Gauff who won at Roland Garros last year and Eastbourne before. But has become a different player in recent months so could be even more lopsided.
While for Djokovic, he has to beat the players in front of him but continues his very nice draw with a battle against compatriot, Laslo Djere.
Albeit a compatriot he has not battered around the court too much despite not being a tour newcomer. They have only played once and Djokovic won narrowly in Belgrade after surrendering the opening set. Can Djere spoil one of Djokovic's perceived easiest runs in a Grand Slam for years?
Paul kicks off action as Wozniacki-Brady in battle of returnees
Two of the stars of Toronto start off proceedings with Tommy Paul and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reaching the latter stages in Canada in the US Open warm-up.
Usually a bad omen, they have reached the third round and will now face each other. With Paul being a fans' favourite and the Spaniard being an in-form entertainer on the court, expect fireworks.
The same can be said for a great story third up.
Caroline Wozniacki in her first Grand Slam back was crying tears of joy as she saw off Petra Kvitova earlier this week. A true embodiment of form is temporary and class is permanent and her next opponent is also in the same realm.
Both returnees albeit
Jennifer Brady instead of becoming a mother has had to toil with injuries since reaching a Grand Slam semi-final and then final. From her career best to it coming crashing down, she has shown signs that the game that propelled her both in Australia and New York is still very much there.
Bound to be a crowd favourite, but maybe split loyalties given the love the crowd give to Wozniacki. It is bound to be a tie to savour on Arthur Ashe.
Swiatek, Fritz, Tiafoe, Muchova and Rybakina headline Louis Armstrong
As ever with a Grand Slam, there is a second show court which could easily be the first on any other day. Perhaps some puzzling choices though in this instance.
Karolina Muchova who continues to show that the Roland Garros final was no fluke will now face Taylor Townsend in the third round. Best friends then collide as
Iga Swiatek, the World No.1 faces Kaja Juvan.
Swiatek being on the second court is no shock, but perhaps the next two are. Two of America's top heroes in
Frances Tiafoe and
Taylor Fritz will play on Louis Armstrong.
The former takes on the evergreen Adrian Mannarino who continues to rise up the rankings despite being in the twilight of his career. While Fritz takes on Jakub Mensik, a Czech qualifier.
Also we get
Elena Rybakina's favourite slot (a sense of sarcasm there) as she faces Sorana Cirstea in the Night Session. Seemingly the organisers haven't learnt from Canada, with Rybakina hitting out for constantly playing at night. That theme though continues in New York.
Ben Shelton, Belinda Bencic and the wide-open quarter which sees Dominic Stricker and Benjamin Bonzi face off are among those on Grandstand. Day Five is here.
