A great week of tennis is behind us at the
Hamburg European Open and there is only one more match, the final between Tsitsipas and Rublev as both are looking to end a trophy drought.
Stefanos Tsitsipas had high hopes following the return of the season but his play hasn't been all that great until this week when he finally started looking like a top 10 player again. In his first four matches in Hamburg, he played very well winning against tough opposition without many issues. He only dropped one set, yesterday in a match where he had to call a medical timeout. That didn't hinder him and he defeated Garin quite easily in the final set to reach the final.
Andrey Rublev has been playing rather good tennis since the return but his form on clay has been especially surprising. Not a player that is known for his clay prowess he strung together several good matches to reach the final in Hamburg. En route to it, he faced very tough opposition only dropping one set against Tommy Pual. His performances in the last two matches against Ruud and Bautista Agut were especially strong as both of these players are well adapted to clay.
This final is a strange one as Rublev is considered the slight favourite due to his impressive play this week. They have met 4 times so far and both players have 2 victories. All of their matches were on hard courts with this one being their first on clay. They usually play close matches so this should be no exception. Both will be looking to win another trophy so it should be spectacular. Be ready for a recap after the match as we will have one.
