Former Australian tennis player
John Millman has called for
equal facilities in the competitions in North America.
There have been complaints about facilities in the ongoing
Chile Open which is being played at the Club
Deportivo Universidad Católica.
Millman, who played in the quarterfinal of the US Open in
2018, in a post on his official account on the social media platform X — previously
known as Twitter — where he called the authorities to give better facilities ‘everywhere’.
"I would have loved to play more in South America. I
wasn’t good enough on dirt! But when I was on the players council there was a
push for minimum standards, including court surface," he wrote. "Has
to be better at all levels, can’t single out Santiago here, happens at a lot of
venues.”
It is not the first time when there have been complaints
about the facilities in different locations. Previously, players playing in the lower division competitions also complained about the lack of facilities.
Chile’s Nicolas Jarry
is defending his crown as he won the Chile Open title last year after beating
Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the final with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.
He will begin his title defence against Argentina’s Federico Coria on Wednesday.
