Jim Courier
compared
Novak Djokovic's mentality to that of Tom Brady.
The former
tennis player Jim Courier discussed Djokovic's future, noting that the Serbian
recently turned 36 years old and won the 2023
French Open. According to
Courier, Djokovic shares the same mindset as NFL legend Tom Brady, as he
continues to have the desire to win trophies despite his age.
“I don’t
think Djokovic is going anywhere. He’s got Tom Brady mentality. He still wants
to be winning these things when he’s 40," Courier claimed.
‘Nole' now
holds the record for the male tennis player with the most Grand Slam titles in
history with 23, surpassing Rafael Nadal, who remains at 22 and has serious
doubts about the level of the Spanish player upon his return in 2024. The
Serbian player has stated that he is not thinking about retirement:
"Of
course the journey is still not over. I feel if I'm winning Slams, why even
think about ending the career that already has been going on for 20 years. So I
still feel motivated, I still feel inspired to play the best tennis in these
tournaments. Those are the ones that count I guess the most in history of our
sport. I now look forward to
Wimbledon," Djokovic said.
"I
don't want to say that I am the greatest, because I feel it's disrespectful
towards all the great champions in different eras of our sport that was played
in completely different way than it is played today. So I leave those kind of
discussions of who is the greatest to someone else,” he added.
“I have of
course huge faith and confidence and belief in myself and for everything that I
am and who I am and what I am capable of doing," Nole said.
After
winning
Roland Garros and reclaiming the world No. 1 ranking, Djokovic is
preparing for his participation in Wimbledon, a tournament he has won 7 times,
including the last four editions. He will be aiming to extend his record of
Grand Slam titles at the event.
