Jannik Sinner has revealed the name of the player he looks up to in order to improve his game. The 23-year-old is currently taking part in Wimbledon, where he secured his spot in the third round after beating Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.
Speaking to the media after the match, Sinner mentioned looking up to former world number one Novak Djokovic as a source of inspiration to improve his game. Sinner stated that Djokovic provided him with a lot of information to improve his game on grass courts. Sinner also went on to admit that there are certain similarities between his and Djokovic’s gameplay.
“It’s difficult to say because I still believe we are both different players,” said Sinner. “We have a few similarities in the way we hit the ball on the forehand and backhand. I feel he improved a lot on the serve. Like today he was serving incredibly well. I watched the match. The way he moves, I feel like he’s much more confident than I am on grass. How he moves. This is also the experience. He has more than I have. He mixes up the game a bit more. I may be a bit more of a faster hitter. But in the other way I’m also quite consistent like he is. There are some similarities. I believe he gave me a lot of information, that I could make my game similar to his, but in my style. I always try to see from certain players what I can take and trying to see if it works well. He’s definitely the main person I look up to, trying to do a couple of things like him.”
Djokovic is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis, having won 24 Grand Slam titles —the most by any player in the Open era. He is also taking part in Wimbledon 2025, where he cemented his spot in the third round after beating Britain’s Dan Evans in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-0.
