Mats Wilander thinks that
Rafael Nadal will have a great
Australian Open if he arrives at the event fully healthy.
Nadal had an amazing Australian Open last year when he made his way to the final and came back to win against Daniil Medvedev. Wilander wasn't going to claim Nadal is favoured or that he will win the event but he certainly thinks that the Spaniard is capable of having a great event if he's fully healthy.
For Wilander the key is in Nadal's health:
"He just has to get there healthy. He's going to be an absolute animal and I'm sure that he is going to play his best tennis. He has a big chance to win the Australian Open, as he does the French Open."
The reason why he's not so quick to rule him out even with the shaky results is the mentality of Nadal. He's proven many times that he's a great champion, for Wilander perhaps an even greater one than Federer:
"Having won there for the second time for someone like him, now he has won all of the Majors twice or more, that's massive. That's where he separates himself from the great Roger Federer, who only won one French Open. So Rafa now knows how to win in all the different venues."
