Young Leo Borg registered his first-ever win in the ATP main
draw as he defeated fellow countryman Elias Ymer in the Swedish Open round of 32 Elias
Ymer on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old secured the win in straight sets with a
score of 7-6, 6-3 in Bastad.
The victory will be remembered by tennis lovers as Leo is
the son of the former world number one
Bjorn Borg.
The 67-year-old finished his career as one of the greatest
players to have played in men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won
15 Grand Slam titles.
His most successful competition was the French Open where he
emerged victorious six times — 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981.
Other than that, he also won five Wimbledon and four US Open
titles in his illustrious career.
In the Australian Open, Bjorn only played once — in the 1974
edition — where he was knocked out from the third round.
His son Leo will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his
father and become one of the best of his generation. He will now face the winner
of the clash between Sebastian Baez and Federico Coria.
