Greece’s tennis star
Stefanos Tsitsipas has stated that he
finds Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev ‘funny sometimes’.
There have been instances in the past when both players had some
interest exchanges on the court, showing their competitiveness.
One of those instances came in 2022 in Cincinnati where the
current world number three danced after defeating Tsitsipas.
It was done in response to the Greek tennis star’s dance after
a win against the 27-year-old a year ago in Rome.
Talking in an Instagram live with his girlfriend Paula Badosa, Tsitsipas rejected the notion of having problems with Medvedev and instead praised him for his patience.
“I find him [Medvedev] funny sometimes on the court,” he
said. “It’s obviously you want to go and play tennis and not spend 10 minutes
talking. But sometimes they are fun, especially when you see them on replay. He
has a very unorthodox tennis [style]. One of the most unorthodox tennis players
I have seen in my career but somehow he makes it works. It works in his favour
pretty well in fact.
“He has a very unique style and is a difficult player to play
against because he serves big. He doesn’t make unforced errors. He doesn’t miss
a lot and he has the ball in play most of the time. He doesn’t create play but
he reads and his patience is one of the strongest components.”
Tsitsipas had a difficult time during the recently concluded
Wimbledon where he was knocked out from the round of 16 after suffering a defeat
against America’s Christopher Eubanks in a five-set thriller with a score of
3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
On the other hand, Medvedev suffered a defeat in the semi-final
against eventual champion world number one Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets with a score of 6-3,
6-3, 6-3.
