Zverev on Peng Shuai: "I hope more news will come and then hopefully the ATP will do something. We live in 2021, in Germany, and we think there is no longer anything like this in the world. But this case shows dictatorship is still there." (Via ZDF)
Peng Shuai was recently spotted in Shanghai chatting with Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming with the situation still ongoing.
Many tennis players have spoken on the situation and the responses made by several international organizations and the latest to do so was Alexander Zverev. The German did not speak too much on the matter before this simply saying that he hopes everything will be okay. Now, in an interview with ZDF, Zverev said:
"I hope more news will come and then hopefully the ATP will do something. We live in 2021, in Germany, and we think there is no longer anything like this in the world. But this case shows dictatorship is still there."
Quite a bold comment by Zverev who was never afraid to speak his mind and it's a comment that won't go down well in Chinese media. What the response ends up being, remains to be seen but not many will take kindly to the country being labeled a dictatorship.
