In the lead-up to the Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will take centre stage in a never-before-seen exhibition match in Seoul, South Korea. The Hyundai Card Super Match will be played next Saturday, January 10, at 16:00 local time.
We will see another Alcaraz–Sinner showdown to warm up for the start of the season, in what is their only preparation for the first Grand Slam of the year, after both opted out of competing in ATP-level tournaments during the opening weeks of the season.
The world No. 1 and No. 2 will face each other for the first time in 2026, measuring forces ahead of the Happy Slam, where both arrive as the leading contenders. This comes after they contested the last three Grand Slam finals against each other and shared the last eight major titles, played in 2024 and 2025. Both will be eager to show they are ready to extend their dominance into 2026 — and to impose themselves against their most challenging rival.
The current head-to-head in official matches stands in favour of the Spaniard at 10–6, although the Italian emerged victorious in their most recent encounter, just a month ago in the ATP Finals final. Sinner has also previously held the upper hand in exhibition matches, defeating Alcaraz in both finals of the Six Kings Slam in 2024 and 2025.
Alcaraz will step onto the court in front of the public for the first time since his widely discussed split with Juan Carlos Ferrero, his long-time coach. This exhibition offers a chance to assess whether his work with Samuel López — who previously worked alongside Ferrero and is now the main coach — could bring potential changes to Alcaraz’s game. The Spaniard completed his entire pre-season in Spain under López, with the main goal of arriving well prepared for the Australian Open, the major that has troubled him the most so far and which also represents his primary objective of the season, as he looks to complete the Career Grand Slam.
On the other side, Sinner — a player far less accustomed to exhibitions than Alcaraz — once again chose not to play any lead-up tournaments before heading to Melbourne, a strategy that has already paid dividends in previous campaigns. Riding a 14-match winning streak and having captured two consecutive titles in Melbourne, he begins the year as the leading favourite, especially after a strong end to the 2025 season, which he closed with 15 consecutive victories.
