World number one Novak Djokovic has revealed that he is ‘fine’ after the bottle-hitting incident during the Rome Open. The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic is currently taking part in the Rome Open where he won his round of 64 clash against France’s Corentin Moutet in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-1. After the match, the reigning world number one signed the players autograph and was headed towards the tunnel when he was hit by a metal bottle. The incident left Djokovic in pain as he was taken away by the security.
The Belgrade-born star, in a post on his official account on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — wrote that he is ‘fine’ and that he is taking a rest to prepare for Sunday’s clash. “Thank you for the messages of concern. This was an accident and I am fine resting at the hotel with an ice pack. See you all on Sunday. #IBI24,” he wrote. Djokovic is now set to face Alejandro Tabilo of Chile in the round of 32 clash of the mega-event.
