Former Britain’s tennis star Laura Robson believes that
Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic might get a lot of support from
the New York crowd in the upcoming US Open.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is set to begin
in less than a week’s time where players from all over the world will battle it
out to secure the ultimate prize.
Robson, while talking to
Sky Sports, stated that there is a
possibility of Djokovic getting a lot of support from the crowd at Flashing
Medows, largely because he will start the tournament as the second seed.
"So often the crowd like to go against him for whatever
reason,” she said. “I thought it was nice in a way to see how emotional he was
at Wimbledon or how frustrated he got because you don't often see that from him
and it just shows that he cares so much after winning so much in his life.
“Winning all there is to have won and yet it still matters
this much to him. So I feel like maybe he won a couple of people over that day.
And maybe he might be almost a bit more of an underdog in New York and the New
York fans love to get behind anyone who's not winning, basically.
"So maybe
things will come round for him. I can't really see a reason to not like him, or
at least to not enjoy his tennis and accept that actually, he is the best
in the world."
The 23-time Grand Slam winner will start the competition
with high confidence, especially after securing a memorable triumph at the
recently concluded Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open) where he
defeated the current world number one Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final with
a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6.
