With the ATP Finals which begin on Saturday 9 November in his wing mirror, Carlos Alcaraz will look to speed towards the finishing line of the season with his sights set on another title.
Alcaraz will be seeded third in the draw after home hero Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. He is in the same group as the latter avoiding an unwanted meeting for both the main duo and also organisers early on between Sinner and Alcaraz.
Albeit Alcaraz has been a nemesis for Sinner this season beating him in all three of their meetings. They will only clash in the knockout stages. In his group, he faces Zverev, Ruud and Rublev. Ruud he has a great record against in particular, they play on Monday.
“When I smile on court I show my best tennis, my best shots. I try to play solid but aggressively and need to do it perfectly if I am to lift the trophy,” Alcaraz said on Thursday.
“I come here with the goal to win. I want to put this trophy next to the others and it is a good goal. I am playing against the best players in the world, so I need to play my best.”
After that though is the Davis Cup Finals, he will say farewell to Rafael Nadal and has admitted it will be difficult and is something he aims to block out.
“I haven’t thought too much about that date yet. It’s hard for me to accept that Rafa Nadal is going to retire. I’m only focused on the ATP Finals; then, I don’t know how everything will be,” he told reporters in Turin.
“I don’t feel extra pressure to play the Davis Cup, or because it’s Rafa’s last tournament: I just want to get there and see how things go, I don’t want to make too many projections, we’ll see how it goes.”
