Alexander Bublik is a famously anti-tennis tennis player who confirmed that his son will never play the sport he ended up playing.
Bublik spoke often about his distaste for tennis claiming that he hates the sport and that he only does it for the money. Bublik also spoke many times about how he would quit when he earned 'enough'. He's currently in Kazakhstan where he will defend the colours of his nation at the Astana Open against a very strong field of players that includes Djokovic, Alcaraz and Medvedev.
In a recent interview he explained why for him it's only a job:
"Once you have children, it's time to move on, when they start screaming you forget the rest of your problems. In the end, tennis is my job and I know I have to do it well."
He shared a bit more about why he doesn't like tennis and it's very Bublik-like, straight to the point and very honest:
"It's not a fun life, there are many trips. There are many people who dream of having clean drinking water, so it's not that I don't appreciate what I have, it's just that I don't like it, that's all. I don't care at all right now, I only play for myself and my family. If people don't like it, that's fine, everything will be fine for me, nothing changes."
So how did Bublik end up playing a sport that he dislikes. In his own words:
"In my case, I never had the chance not to be a tennis player. My father told me to play and my mother supported him, so I played. I was only two years old, but the question of whether or not I wanted to be a tennis player never came up. That's why I don't want my son to play tennis, we'll see what he's good at, at the moment I have no idea."
