Andy Murray continued his retirement tour of sorts on Friday losing out in two sets 7-6, 6-1 to Andrey Rublev with the fifth seed making light work of the former World No.1. But despite revealing recently that retirement is imminent, it seems some did not get the memo.
After being bombarded with questions for sometime, Murray revealed recently that he was unlikely to play after the summer potentially paving the way for a Wimbledon farewell. But he was still quizzed about it after losing to Rublev which infuriated the Scot. He said that his stance hasn't changed and that he doesn't know why he keeps being asked about it despite making clear what his future plans are.
“Well, yeah. I feel like no one is listening to me. I mean, yeah, I'm planning on finishing in the summer. I don't know what more I'm supposed to say," he said to the media in Indian Wells.
“I've been getting asked about it for, yeah, 18 months or so, and it's obviously something I have thought about, but, you know, I hadn't made a decision on. Once I have made the decision, I have expressed that, and no one is listening to it. So I don't really understand why I keep getting asked, to be honest.”
So it seems that the retirement tour is very much on with Murray doubling down on claims that he will not play post Summer. He has already set his stall out potentially to play one final Olympics, but it will likely be Wimbledon that sees at least a big farewell to one of the greatest British athletes of the modern era and a true sporting great. He will now move onto Miami and towards the clay court season as all roads will also now lead to Wimbledon for him.
