Russia’s tennis star and the current world number four Daniil
Medvedev has stated that it was a ‘classy move’ from Pedro Cachin to ask for a
shirt from the former world number one Rafael Nadal. There has been a lot of
debate about whether it was the right thing to do when the Argentine tennis player asked for
the shirt of the 22-time Grand Slam winner after their encounter in Madrid.
Medvedev, who participated in the competition and was forced to retire during the quarterfinal against Jiri Lehecka, was quoted in a report as saying that there was nothing wrong with Cachin asking for the shirt of a player who has been a legend of the sport.
"That was pretty fun from Pedro,” he said. “I felt like
it was a classy move, which we don’t have in tennis. I don’t think I ever had
it. I would never have wanted to from one person. If I would do it, I would
start collecting, five, 10, here and there. Not my thing to do it with one
person. So I would collect many, if it would become a thing.” During the contest,
it was Nadal who came out on top with a score of 6-1, 6-7, 6-3.
