Jack Sock
announced through social media that he will retire after the
US Open.
The
30-year-old tennis player surprised everyone on Sunday by revealing that he
will compete in his final tournament and bid farewell to the tennis courts in
front of his fans.
In an
emotional message, Jack Sock reminisced about his long career spanning 14 years
as a professional, having played tennis since his early childhood.
“To the 8
year old boy who immediately fell in low with the sport of tennis. I hope I
made you proud,” Sock said.
“It’s been
14 years of memories I will never forget. From winning four Grand Slams,
Olympic Gold and Bronze, Top 10 rankings in singles and doubles and competing
on the Davis Cup and Laver Cup teams, it’s been beyond what I could’ve ever
dreamed. Without the help of so many people, none of that could've happened,”
he wrote.

The
American can proudly claim four Grand Slam titles, all in doubles. His first
came at the 2014 Wimbledon alongside Vasek Pospisil, and he repeated the feat
at the 2018 Wimbledon and US Open partnering with Mike Bryan.
Additionally,
he secured the 2011 US Open title in mixed doubles with his compatriot Melanie
Oudin when he was just 18 years old.
The past
few years haven't been the kindest to Sock due to injuries. By the end of 2018,
he went from being in the top 20 to falling outside the top 100 rankings. Unfortunately,
he hasn't managed to return to the top 100 since. Currently, he holds the world
No. 485 position.
In this
year's US Open, he will participate in the main doubles draw alongside John
Isner, who also recently announced his retirement at the age of 38. Together,
they have won three doubles titles and reached one final.
The
American duo will kick off their campaign against the pair consisting of the
French player Albano Olivetti and the American Robert Galloway.
