Daniil Medvedev looked like a man on a mission so far at the US Open as he did not allow anything to stop him. The Russian played some of his best tennis to date at the event frustrating opponents with his defence, court coverage and unbelievable shotmaking out of seemingly impossible positions. Medvedev was asked about facing Djokovic in the final where he could make history and he said:
“I think from my side, of course, if I make this I’ll probably be in the history books as a little bit sour,” Medvedev said after making the final, on the subject of stopping Djokovic. Like, not letting him do this. But I don’t really care about it. I think it’s more about him, that it affects him. Because from one side for sure he’s gonna feel the pressure a little bit."
Medvedev faced Djokovic in the Australian Open final and while his level there was high he was unable to challenge Djokovic at all to the surprise of many. Speaking on that experience he said he will try to do better this time around:
“I always give my best, but I feel like I didn’t leave my heart on the court in Melbourne even if of course I wanted to. There was something not turning up this match. That’s what I’m gonna try to do on Arthur Ashe with hopefully 100% fans. No matter the score I’m just gonna turn up the heat and try to do my best, more than what I did in Melbourne.”
