Former world number one
Roger Federer’s agent, Tony Godsick, has revealed an interesting plan for a reunion with Spain’s legendary tennis star
Rafael Nadal. Both players are regarded as two of the greatest players in
the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era.
Swiss legendary tennis star’s agent Godsick has been recently quoted in a report in which he revealed an interesting plan to have a Federer-Nadal reunion. He was of the opinion that Federer could become the captain of Team Europe in the
Laver Cup in the near future and could have Nadal as his assistant.
“My dream is for Roger to be captain and Rafa to be
assistant, and then the other way around,” said Godsick while speaking to Spanish
media outlet Marca. “This way, they would be in charge for longer. The rivalry
they had on the court was very special, but I think their friendship off the
court is even more special. They are a clear example that all competitors can
get along.”
Team Europe and Team World are set to get new captains
from the 2025 edition. 1983 French Open winner Yannick Noah will replace the legendary Bjorn Borg as the captain of Team Europe, whereas former world number one Andre Agassi will replace John McEnroe as the captain of Team World.
Federer finished his
career back in September 2022 after struggling with fitness concerns. He ended
his illustrious career with 20 Grand Slams to his name. He was the first to win
more than 15 Grand Slams in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category
in the Open era. He was also the first to win 20 major titles in men’s tennis.
On the other hand, Nadal has already announced that he will retire from professional
tennis at the end of the 2024 season. The Spaniard has lifted 22 Grand Slams in
his illustrious career.
