Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, has confirmed his participation in the
Davis Cup Finals, joining forces with Carlos Alcaraz. The Spanish team, led by David Ferrer, officially listed Nadal in the squad.
Speculation had grown in recent weeks about Nadal’s potential appearance, though Ferrer admitted it would depend on the former world No. 1’s physical condition. Now, at 38 years old, Nadal will play alongside Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreño Busta, Marcel Granollers, and Alcaraz.
The Finals 8 will be held in Málaga from 19 to 24 November, with Spain set to face the Netherlands, represented by Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp, in the quarter-finals. Should they advance, Spain will play the winner of the Germany vs. Canada clash.
At this stage, Nadal has not confirmed any other tournaments for the remainder of the season after opting out of the US Open. However, he may adjust his schedule to participate in an event before the Davis Cup, marking his return to representing Spain, as he last did in the Olympic Games. This time, it will be on hard court, a surface he hasn’t played on since the Brisbane International in January of this year.
