Rafael Nadal confirmed earlier today in a press conference that he'll miss this year's
Roland Garros due to the hip injuries which he sustained at the Australian Open.
Nadal's hip injury looked bad when he first injured himself many months ago in Melbourne however nobody really expected him to be out for months after that. His initial timetable for returning seemed around Indian Wells however it extended far beyond that forcing him to abandon plans to play at Roland Garros and not only that.
He'll be out for a few more months possibly returning for the Davis Cup Finals to play for Spain once more before he hangs it up after next year. He also confirmed that 2024 would likely be his last year on the Tour but with this hip injury, you never know. Speaking about why he choose to withdraw, Nadal said:
“The real situation is I was not able to enjoy my work since after the pandemic, my body wasn’t able to hold the practices in a good way. I wasn’t able to enjoy practices & competition”
