The Canadian Open will distribute nearly 10 million dollars in prizes, with the men's champion receiving 150% more than the women's champion.
From August 7th to 13th, the highly anticipated 2023 Canadian Open, also known as the National Bank Open, will take place, featuring a prominent ATP and WTA 1000 tournament on the hard court circuit in the United States.
The men's competition will have a total prize purse of $6,600,000, while the women's category will compete for a sum of $2,788,468.
Among the participants in the ATP tournament, there are prominent figures including the top three seeds Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev.
On the other hand, the list of participants in the WTA category also includes the top female players of the moment, such as Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybakina.
It is worth noting that due to the disparity in prizes and points distribution between the ATP and WTA events, the rewards structure is different. The male champion will earn 1000 ATP points and a prize of $1,019,335, while the winner of the women's draw will receive 900 WTA points and $454,500.
The difference in prizes and points is evident in each round of the tournament as well. In the first round, the men will earn 10 ranking points and a reward of $26,380, while the women will receive only 1 point and $12,848 in prizes for the same achievement.
As they progress in the competition and reach the second round, ATP players will accumulate 45 points and win $47,260, while WTA competitors will be rewarded with 60 points and $17,930.
The tournament is played alternately in Montreal and Toronto and the current champions are Simona Halep and Pablo CarreΓ±o Busta.
The Romanian player will continue with the suspension due to the recently found doping case and will not participate in the tournament, causing her to lose virtually all the points she has left in the WTA ranking. As for the Spanish player, he will also not participate as he has been away from the ATP circuit since the Rotterdam Open, where he was defeated in the first round against Gasquet
