Rafael Nadal being absent from
Roland Garros opens up the chance for many players to possibly make a deep run and win the event according to
Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev is not considered among the biggest favourites for Roland Garros as his clay prowess is far behind his hard court prowess. The Russian did prove this week in Rome that he is capable on the surface if he really puts his mind to it. He could make a deep run at Roland Garros, just like any other top player but the chances are even bigger with no Nadal there.
Speaking about Nadal's withdrawal, Medvedev said:
“Hopefully he can come back as fast as possible because he’s an
amazing player, amazing athlete, one of the best in the history. We can argue about this but hopefully he can come back and play some more Slams as long as he can and we’ll see how it goes.”
He added:
“I guess it’s a first Roland Garros
in whatever, 10 years [19 years], where there is no Rafa and probably
out of these ten he won it probably what, nine, eight times.”
