Britain’s tennis star
Andy Murray has revealed that he will
make a last-minute call about whether to participate in the
Wimbledon 2024. The
third Grand Slam of the year is set to begin from Monday where players from all
over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the
ultimate prize.
Murray is regarded as one of the most successful players in
the history of Britain’s tennis in the men’s singles category. The 37-year-old
has struggled with fitness concerns throughout his career. Early in 2018, he announced his retirement from professional tennis after the Australian Open because of a hip
injury. However, he returned to the court soon and has continued to play at the
highest level.
In the recent past, Murray has indicated that he will retire
from professional tennis after the Wimbledon and Summer Olympics. However, that
plan had taken a serious hit when it was announced that he suffered a back
injury during the Queen’s ATP Championship. After that, the former world number
one underwent surgery as well.
An English media outlet, the Independent, recently reported that Murray has been ruled out of Wimbledon 2024 after failing to recover in time from the surgery. However, the Glasgow-born star was recently quoted in a report stating that he will make a last-minute
call about whether to participate in the mega-event.
“The rate that I’m improving just now, if that was to
continue then an extra 72 to 96 hours makes a huge difference,” said Murray.
“It’s complicated, and it’s made more complicated because I want to play at
Wimbledon one more time. I want to have that opportunity to play the tournament
and I know that some people might look at that and say, withdrawing from a
tournament late at the last minute or something like that isn’t the right thing
to do, even though it happens every single week on the tour.
