Jannik
Sinner isn't distracted by his eye-catching bag and says he's at
Wimbledon to
play tennis.
Without
facing any seeded players or even a top-75 opponent, Sinner has reached the
semifinals of Wimbledon without being too challenged. He has won three of his
matches in straight sets and two in four sets, yet he never seemed to lose
control of a match.
However, in
his quest for the semifinals, he will face his biggest challenge of the
tournament in the 7-time Wimbledon champion, including the last four editions, Novak
Djokovic.
Since the
start of the tournament, Sinner's Gucci bag has drawn attention, as it was the
first time someone entered the Centre Court with a non-white bag. Sinner
praised the personalized bag made by Gucci, a brand of which he is a brand ambassador,
but said it doesn't distract him from the goal of playing tennis at the All
England Club. He also denied being the most stylish player on the ATP Tour.
“No, I'm
not. As I say, the bag, it's nice to see. I know the family of Gucci very well.
In the other way, if would influence me to play better or worse, I would not do
it. It's not a racquet change. It's not a shoe change, which is something
different. I'm here to play tennis. Winning matches means much, much more than
carrying on a bag,” Sinner said.
“It feels
good. It means a lot to me. Obviously, as I said on court, there is a lot of
work behind this. Very happy that I can play my first semifinal here in this
special place, a special surface. So let's see how it goes the next match,”
Italian youngstar added.
Sinner and
Djokovic will face each other on Thursday on Centre Court in what will be the
final challenge before the final. Both players met in the quarterfinals of
Wimbledon last year, and the Italian failed to capitalize on a two-set advantage,
ultimately losing the match 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
