Jannik Sinner's heroics in the 2024 Australian Open have led to high praise and in the case of Paul McNamee, him being anointed inside the new Big Three alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
Sinner had a dominant run at the Australian Open, but it was sheer anguish at the Australian Open for Daniil Medvedev who went two sets up again and faltered against the Italian as he made an incredible comeback win to seal it 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in three hours and 44 minutes to clinch his maiden Grand Slam crown. McNamee congratulated Sinner and his team before giving him the new title.
He also singled out Medvedev for praise for the substantial amount of time he spent on court en route to finishing runner-up in anguish against the Italian who fulfilled his long drawn out potential in a title that many feel will see the floodgates open and the next generation come flooding through and McNamee giving him a spot in the new Big Three shows that to be the case. A title only held in folklore by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, but is it now the latter, Sinner and Alcaraz?
"Congrats to Jannik Sinner & his team on securing the first of many Slams, from two sets down. He officially joins Djokovic & Alcaraz as a member of the new Big Three. Hats off to Daniil Medvedev on a gallant 24 hours plus fight, a Grand Slam record. Some final. Some tournament," McNamee posted on X (formerly Twitter).
