Between 5-11 February, the
Abu Dhabi Open will take place and sees the WTA 500 which is headlined by Elena Rybakina,
Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, Emma Raducanu and
Naomi Osaka and in the doubles two of those main names will come together to play as a team.
That being Ons Jabeur and Naomi Osaka who have received a doubles wildcard to play the Abu Dhabi Open together. Osaka recently returned to the sport after becoming a mother for the first time and lost to Caroline Garcia at the Australian Open, but has committed to playing a full schedule during 2024 which begins in earnest in the Middle East.
This tandem brings two trailblazers together in Jabeur who has been making history for Arab and African tennis throughout her career with the Tunisian reaching a career high of World No.2 and reaching a Grand Slam final three times. While of course, Osaka is a former World No.1 and has won multiple Grand Slam titles and will be chasing that again. In terms of their own doubles pedigree, Osaka has competed in women's doubles at all four Grand Slam tournaments.
While Jabeur has played in the US Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon. But she has a history of teaming with top names for dream combos with Serena Williams in 2022 being partnered on her return to action by Jabeur where they reached the semi-finals before an injury prevented the Tunisian from competing any further and so all eyes will be on the duo when it comes to Abu Dhabi. It will bring some star power to the tournament both in singles and doubles.
