Italy’s
Jannik Sinner achieved yet another milestone after
his recent triumph in the
Vienna Open.
The 22-year-old defeated the current world number three
Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final of the competition with a score of 7-6, 4-6,
6-3.
While doing so, Sinner now has the joint-most titles by an
Italian men’s tennis player. It was his 10th trophy on the court.
The only other Italian men’s singles player to win as many
as 10 titles was Adriano Panatta.
The victory was an even more special one for the current
world number four as he suffered defeat twice against Russia’s tennis star
player in the final of an ATP event earlier this year.
He was on the losing side in the ABN Amro Open in Rotterdam
with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Later, he was once again on the losing side in the Miami
Open where Medvedev emerged victory with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
Overall, this was Sinner’s third ATP title in 2023. His
first triumph this year was in Montpellier where he defeated America’s Maxime
Cressy in the final with a score of 7-6, 6-3.
Later, he also won
the ATP Masters 1000 event in Canada after beating Australia’s Alex de Minaur
with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
