Over the last 30 years Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have been the dominant forces within tennis. With a combined total of 63 Grand Slam's between them. The trio have and are still continuing to be incredible assets to the sport.
However fairytales have to end at some point with Federer being 40, Djokovic 35 and Nadal 36 the three of them are coming ever closer to the end of their careers.
Over the last few years there has been a huge conversation about who is going to take their place. The World NO.3 Alcaraz has been the name that's been mentioned recently, however there are many other names in the conversation.
John McEnroe believes that there is going to be a larger variation of winners and will be more like the WTA when these three retire from the sport which he explained during a US Open preview.
“It is clear that none of the youngsters today is going to come close to what we have seen from tennis players like Nadal, Federer and Djokovic, who are true legends,”
“Almost all the new ones play the same way, with a fast tennis pattern, but Carlos has something different. I think the trend of the men’s circuit will be like the WTA, with many players winning."
“If I have to stay with one, I’ll stay with Alcaraz. He is an amazing athlete, but at the same time he is not very tall if you compare him to Zverev or Medvedev"
