Aryna Sabalenka plays tennis with a lot of power and some of that power resembles the type Serena Williams possesses in her game according to Christopher Clarey.
Aryna Sabalenka established herself as one of the best players in the world this year. She finally won her maiden grand slam and made a few deep runs at events adding a trophy on clay in Madrid as well. Much of her success comes from a newfound level of consistency which along with her power present a deadly combo.
According to journalist Christopher Clarey, that powers looks very similar to the type of power Serena Williams posseses:
“She’s obviously got a little bit more stability in her game now and that’s the difference. But I remember talking about, three four years ago when she really emerged for the first time, talking to some of the greats in Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Chris Evert and they all saw the upside there. They all could see that, I wouldn’t call it next-level power because it’s kind of Serena level power I would say. But it’s Serena level power."
When she first broke out, Sabalenka had a really good signature serve however in recent years it became one of her weak points of the game. Not anymore as her serve is looking rather stable this year:
"And the serve back in those days was pretty stable and pretty good so she had this time in the wilderness she spent and now she’s out of that. One swipe of the racket, her movement has clearly improved. I think she had to given the way Iga Swiatek was playing last year. But I think Aryna Sabalenka's package is a potent one."
