Karen Khachanov will not play at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships announcing his withdrawal on Friday afternoon due to an injury sustained at the French Open.
Khachanov has had a superb 12 months reaching the semi-finals at the 2022 US Open, 2023 Australian Open and Quarter-Finals of the recent French Open.
But his streak of Grand Slam appearances and reaching this point or better will end with the Russian dealing with a fracture since the French Open.
This of course was compounded by him not being able to play at last years' tournament due to the Russian ban meaning he won't have played for three years at Wimbledon by the time 2024 rolls around.
“I have to inform you of my withdrawal from the upcoming Championships at Wimbledon. Due to an unfortunate injury I picked up at the French Open (stress fracture and a partial fracture in sacrum S1 bone), I will not be able to participate at Wimbledon for the second year in a row,” he wrote on social media.
“The decision to withdraw was not an easy one and I was hoping till the end during these few weeks that I would be able to recover however my medical team ensured me that in my case it wasn’t possible,” he continued.
