Daniil Medvedev will play the 2023 US Open final after beating Carlos Alcaraz in the semis. The Russian will face Novak Djokovic again in the deciding match, as he did in 2021.
After the match, he criticized some of Alcaraz's fans who were shouting at a decisive moment, and that made him lose concentration. He sent them a tremendous blow in a statement published by Marca:
"There were 1,000 Spaniards and at 5-3 (in the fourth set) they started screaming between the first and second serves, that wasn't nice, but I guess they were desperate, so I'm glad that didn't help them. Now they can go to sleep."
About Carlos Alcaraz, he was full of praise after beating him. Nobody expected him to do it after his clear defeats against him in Indian Wells and Wimbledon this year, but he ended up getting him:
"I don't know if he's 20 or 21, but he's very young and he already has two Grand Slams, and he's been many weeks number one. He's incredible and I think nobody has done it before him. So to be able to with him you need to be better than yourself."
Now he is going to try the most difficult one yet, to beat Novak Djokovic again in another final in New York:
"The challenge is playing against a guy who has won 23 majors and I only have one. When I beat him here, I managed to compete better than myself. I have to do it again, I have no choice."
