In the first semi-final at the US Open, Daniil Medvedev will face Grigor Dimitrov with the former looking to continue his form as of late which has seen him bring himself into the foray.
Dimitrov though has come through surprisingly not due to his pedigree but because of his injury and form as of late this year. His victories over Alex de Minaur and Roger Federer though; have proved not only his fight but also that he is returning to his best.
In their previous meetings, it is 1-1 with them both in 2017 at Queens Club and Citi Open; but a lot has changed since then meaning that it will be firmly a bumper tie.
The Russian ace has said that he is pleased to see Grigor returning to the top of his game; that he is playing unbelievable this week.
“[I’m] really happy for Grigor, that he's coming back to his shape,” said Medvedev.
“I think he's [No.] 78 in the ATP Rankings right now, before this week, so he's definitely going to go up. I saw some matches of him here. He was playing unbelievable, I think… We all know what he's capable of when he's playing like he can.”
Medvedev has been one of the best players in the past two weeks and coming into the tournament and has won and maybe lost a few fans due to his hilarious
post match interviews where he has played up to the American crowds.
Dimitrov spoke about his opponent and said he must be doing something right and that it isn't going to be an easy tie by any means.
“He's been pretty focused throughout the whole summer. He's been having a great summer, a lot of confidence building up, winning Cincinnati, being already here. A lot of good matches, a lot behind him really… I've just seen him a little bit in the background here, how he has played. Clearly, he's doing something right. Again, it's not going to be an easy match.”
