It wasn't a good day at the office for
Daniil Medvedev as the World No.5 was handed defeat at the
Cincinnati Open and he made his frustrations known albeit with a code violation to follow.
Medvedev faced Jiri Lehecka in the second round who had not played for some time due to injury. The Czech ace claimed the opening set 7-6(2) and he also sealed the second 6-4. This saw Medvedev lose in the first round in consecutive tournaments having also lost early in Montreal last week.
But he was given a code violation by chair umpire Aurelie Tourte for allegedly using foul language which was followed by a heated exchange. Sitting on his bench, Medvedev annoyed by the scoreline appeared to be venting to himself in French albeit of course the umpire is French so she could hear everything even if others couldn't.
She gave him a code violation for foul language and Medvedev took umbrage with that saying that he was only talking to himself. She stood by her decision though as Medvedev from there crashed out of the tournament.
"Why are you giving me a code violation? I'm talking to myself. What's the problem? In the other match, when I was talking to myself, you didn't do anything. I'm speaking to myself.. what's the problem?" Medvedev asked Tourte.
