Marcelo Melo has reflected on the cancellation of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells and has admitted that there is doubts from the players side about how this will ultimately affect rankings.
The tournament was cancelled ultimately due to fears about the Coronavirus; but for Melo it is business as usual as he added that he will still use the facilities down there to continue to stay ready and that other players think the same.
“Yesterday we were all taken by surprise here; we were at the club and we had just finished training normally when the news came that the tournament would be cancelled.
Before there was no warning or anything like that. They confirmed a case of coronavirus nearby and took this decision as a precaution. We players are waiting for what the Miami decision will be like; it looks like they are still talking about it.
I will stay here until I have this confirmation whether or not I will have to go Miami. Anyway, there is no panic among the players. The courts of the tournament will remain open for us to continue training; but we don't know how it will work in relation to ranking if there are future cancellations."
