World number one
Novak Djokovic has continued his dominance
in the world of men’s tennis with yet another outstanding year.
The 36-year-old is often regarded as the best player in the
history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand
Slams.
Interestingly, half of those major titles came in the last
five years, showing how much he has dominated the rest on the court.
Djokovic has had a phenomenal year where he ended up winning
three out of the four Grand Slam titles.
His most recent triumph came in New York where he defeated
the world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final of the US Open in
straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Djokovic’s only defeat in a major tournament in 2023 came
while playing at Wimbledon where he lost the final to Spain’s young tennis sensation
Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thrilling contest with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6),
6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
The Belgrade-born will now turn his attention towards
defending his crown in Wimbledon next year.
The Australian Open remains the most successful competition for
Djokovic where he has lifted the title 10 times. It is a record in the
competition’s history.
