The 2nd major in 2021 is starting on Sunday and it will feature Roger Federer for the first time since the Australian Open in 2020.
The Swiss ace has travelled to Paris and is training at the Court Philippe Chatrier for a few days now. It will be the first major he will take part in since the Australian Open in 2020. Since then both Djokovic and Nadal added to their major tally reducing the gap between them and Roger.
Federer is still in the lead with 20 grand slam titles but Nadal has also 20. Djokovic is not far behind at 18 so this Roland Garros presents an opportunity for Nadal to overtake Roger or Djokovic to narrow the gap even further.
While playing at the Geneva Open Federer famously said he was not going to win the 2021 Roland Garros. The clear favourite is Nadal with Djokovic having chances if he is able to play his best tennis. Federer is also on record saying that both of them will overtake him in the major tally. He said:
"I think the way it's going, Rafa and Novak will win more Majors than me because they are that good. The season they had in 2019 shows that there is more to come for them. After that knee injury in 2016, I would have taken one more Major and was able to grab three amazing ones. I had my moment and always said everything that comes after 15 was a bonus."
Federer said this at the 2020 Australian Open.
